My son wanted nothing to do with his cake. He didn't want to touch the frosting. We had to dunk his fingers in the frosting and actually smear it on his face for him so we could get that required first birthday picture. To this day, he still doesn't eat frosting--he scrapes it off cake.
My daughter, on the other hand, was a sugar-junkie from the beginning. The main reason she had so little frosting on her face was because it all went in her mouth. It's at the point where the two of them basically split cake when we have it. He eats the cake, she eats the frosting.
Saturday, October 1, is Evernight Publishing's first birthday, and I can't wait to see how the party turns out. If you've paid attention to the books they put out, I'm pretty sure Evernight is going to be the kind of toddler that savors every delectable bite of that cake...and you can bet it'll be rich and chocolatey.
With this party on the horizon, it is my pleasure to announce that I've signed my third contract with Evernight. The follow-up to last year's holiday story, Yes, Alana, There Is a Santa Claus, will be included in this year's holiday anthology. Making the Naughty List will be part of this year's anthology Stockings and Suspenders.
This story follows a different narrator, an elf named Daisy. She's not exactly your stereotypical elf. Brady picked her off the streets of Detroit years ago, and now with him dating Alana, she feels left behind. So, Santa sends her on a mission of the utmost importance. She needs to get a man named Gage Thomas off the naughty list...by whatever means necessary.
So, in celebration of Evernight's birthday and my new sale, I'm giving away a copy of my latest Evernight release, GunShy. (I'll be choosing a winner on Friday.**** CORRECTION: The contest runs through the weekend. Winner will be drawn on Monday!****)
And... Evernight is also going to choose a winner from commenters here for a $5.00 Evernight gift certificate.
AND...every time you comment on one of the birthday blogs, you're entered for the grand prizes as well.
In order to enter for all of those goodies, just follow my blog and post a comment (and don't forget to include your email). It's a birthday party, so tell me your favorite memory of a birthday, favorite party game, favorite kind of cake... I'm pretty open as long as it has to do with birthdays :)
Oh yeah, and on their birthday, Evernight will be marking down ALL of their books, including GunShy, by 75%! That means even if you don't win, you can still get it at a great price.
Congrats on the story, Sel!
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy Birthday, Evernight!! :o)

ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday was the year Carlos took me to Vegas and my favorite cake is chocolate cheesecake, not exactly birthday cake, but it has cake in the name. ;)
Thanks, ladies!
ReplyDeleteI had cake tonight to celebrate :)
And cheesecake totally counts if that's your thing!
Hey Seleste, cute cake! I wonder if it's strawberry short cake. I've been craving that. That was an adorable story with your kids!! Happy Birthday to Evernight and congrat's on another contract!

Happy B-day Evernight! And congrats on GunShy, Sel.
ReplyDeleteBirthday parties...lol. In my family, with 19 grandkids, celebrating birthdays could get out of hand. It was just so hard to get us all in one place. So we started celebrating them all at once, every summer. Birthday Day came complete with a giant cake, pin the tail on the donkey & other corny games, presents and kids crazed by sugar. An absolute blast.
We still sort of do this...so many of the next generation are born near Christmas that we have celebrate their Half Birthdays with the extended fam, and do something quiet at home for just us.
Congrats and Happy Birthday to Everlight Publishing
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the new contract!
Just a beautiful blog and I always love to come here and troll through the book covers...lol.
My favorite is cheese cake and it's even better with huckleberries then drizzled with a chocolate glaze. Yummy!
My favorite birthday was my 30th. After having my birthday overlooked so many times over the years even as a child because it is 4 days after Christmas. The attitude when I was a kid that ..well she got enough gifts on Christmas so she "doesn't need anything else" kind of attitude.
But on my 30th my DH sent me flowers, and we went out for a drive in the snow away from the kids for a few short hours. It was nice as it was just the two of us without anyone else.
I loved it!
thank you so much for the contest and wishing you all the success in the future...!

I love Birthdays too except I stopped celebrating them when I turned 48 - LOL But do I remember all the Birthdays my kids had, it didnt matter which of the three kids it was, they always had sleep overs, bom fires, and loud music. I loved all the laughter. when they are real young the birthdays are cute but when they are in their teenage years it becomes eventful and sometimes the role switches from being a parent to being a friend. Wow what good times. Now they are getting older and are still spoiled and I still buy them gifts even though I have grandkids to buy for now. LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Evernight!
Thankyou for the wonderful Hop and Giveaways

Happy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday is a tradition I started when my brothers were young and have continued with my children. The birthday person's day is catered to their favorites. If they like to sleep in they do, we have their favorite meals, and we do activities they like. And best of all everyone gets to choose their favorite cake. There are only 12 of us so it's not too hard to continue and it really makes the day special for the person.
Here's hoping everyone has someone that remembers to celebrate their uniqueness.
Happy Birthday Evernight Publishing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post! My tradition with my kids was they could ask for anything they wanted for dinner on their bday. Over the years it ranged from dinner at Medieval Times to Shrimp Scampi and Chocolate Cake. Every year they surprised me with what they chose.

Too cool...thanks for doing this, Seleste & Evernight! Happy B'day!
ReplyDeleteLet's see...fave memory was when I was in college and wore one of those "Kiss me, its my birthday" pens that my room mate gave me. A lot of random people kissed me on campus that day. Sounds fun but I'm so lucky I didn't catch mono or worse. Ah, the good old days! LOL

Enjoyed reading your blog post! Favorite birthday memory, a cookout had when I was 10, a big deal, because my birthday fell right in the middle of haying season and when you have to put up winters feed for the cattle, time isn't something you waste.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite birthday memory? Hmmm, not too many of them growing up (I am an April Fool's Day baby) so it would have to be a grown up memory. Hmm, those aren't fit for eyes of strangers LOL Can I just say, Use your imagination? LOL

ReplyDeleteAnd happy birthday, Evernight!
My favorite birthday memory. Hm...Let's see... Last year was kind of a downer, so it was horrible, and good at the same time. (Trust me, I'm getting to the good part. Hubby surprised me by ordering a pretty birthday cake for me. I thought that was just too sweet of him.So that's my current favorite.

Love the cake picture. Looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI actually am more into pie than cake, but there is a bakery near my hometown that makes the most moist & yummy bavarian cream cake, which is something that probably even Martha Stewart wouldn't try to make. If I can't have that cake, then give me a big old slice of carrot cake covered with cream cheese frosting.

Hi Seleste! Boy that cake looks good!
ReplyDeleteCarla? That sounds like something similar to what my family did for me on my birthday this year, mom made me cupcakes and made me one of my favorite chicken dishes for dinner!
I really like cake but in the past few years it's gotten to the point where I can't eat as much of it as I used to be able to, that's why I like the idea of having birthday cupcakes you can eat dinner and still be able to have desert!
It's nice when you get to go out but lately I prefer just hanging at my house with my family when birthdays roll around.
Birthdays are sort of big deal to my mom so I hope I never get to the point where I don't want to celebrate them anymore!
Thanks for the additional giveaway!

I love throwing parties for other people. I think my favorite thing to do is to decorate a cake from the local adult story for my naughty nminded GF's. Love to see their face light up.
ReplyDeletetsteinerid(gmail)
What a beautiful cake. Wish I could do that. My favorite cake is Red Velvet. I found a really easy recipe for it and now my family wants me to make if for every family function. Thank you for being part of the party, and happy birthday Evernight.

Oh yeah I'm a new GFC follower (Nay Nay)
One birthday that stands out for me is my oldest niece's 1st. She did not want to do the cake thing, and while I was trying to get her to, her other aunt (other side of family) shoved her hand in it and let me tell you she got P'ed off. I think it was cause she doesn't like to waste anything sweet. She is still a sweet fanatic.

Eep! My husband was gone last week (and this week LOL) and life kind of overwhelmed me so I forgot to come back and comment.
ReplyDeleteThank you to everyone for coming by to celebrate with us and I hope you had fun getting to know the personalities of all the participating authors. I'm drawing the winner of GunShy today and will post that tomorrow (hopefully with links to the grand prize winners as well)! Good luck everyone :)
